Referral Procedures While most of our clients are self-referred, we do accept referrals from outside agencies. If you are referring someone to our program it is important to remember that we offer a voluntary service based on the clients needs and goals. Therefore an ideal referral would be someone who has identified the fact that addiction or substance abuse has negatively impacted their life, and they are wanting to get some information and support in making changes in their life. There are many stages of change, including what we call precontemplative where the person is experiencing negative consequences but not ready to admit that they have a problem or do anything about it. For these people, forced counselling can be quite ineffective. For this reason please assess the person's willingness to attend counselling before making the referral. We can help to motivate the person but if they truly don't want to come there is little we can do. We require a completed referral form before we can see a client. This allows us to know why the person is being sent here and gives the client the opportunity to consent to treatment with us. These forms can be printed out by clicking here. Home
